Our New Blog Living Arts 5,6,7,8!
Welcome to our new blog called Living Arts 5,6,7,8! Here I’ll be sharing posts about certain words that have significant meaning to all of us…in many ways. Being Living Arts Dance Studio, all of these words are part of dance vocabulary and are relatable to each and every one of us in our own way. For this first post in Living Arts 5,6,7,8!, I will talk about Balance.
A New Year to Reflect and Review
Dancing into the New Year always gives us a chance to reflect on the past and review ways we can improve our lives. Many times, New Years resolutions are often kicked to the curb by February. Sometimes earlier. Causing us to fall back into that rut we just tried to step out of. For some weird reason, that rut is so comfortable. Before you know it, you fall back in.
As a way to refresh the Living Arts family throughout the year and help keep you dancing out of those ruts, I’ve come up with an idea I hope you enjoy…
What is Balance?
You can see Einstein understood what balance is. For me, balance is best expressed in dance movement. Oxford defines balance as an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. Very important in dance. Psychologists look at balance in our mental state as one that functions at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment.
I see dance as a way to free your body, fuel your brain and feed your soul. Balance in all things, like eating good foods and some junk food, will help keep you from falling back into those ruts.
Zumbini Babies Beginning Balance
Living Arts is in our second session of Zumbini. This internationally recognized, early childhood development program is giving guardians the chance to sing, dance, & play while they bond with their child. A child’s first steps require a great deal of balance and concentration as they try so diligently to stay upright without falling down. Shortly after those first steps are mastered, walking quickly turns to running, then skipping, jumping, leaping and then dancing.
Balance in Living Arts Dancers
In the dance world we are always finding and testing balance. Finding balance is a constant in movement as our dancers explore space. They thrive to become better dancers by testing boundaries. As we physically grow and mature, the body and mind is continually working on finding balance.
The same can be said with our different and ever changing lifestyles, as well as, our mental and emotional state of mind. Finding balance in these aspects of our lives can be much more difficult than simply falling down and getting back up like my Zumbini babies. It always seems as things start to settle, something throws us off-balance. During these times, I can’t wait to get back on the dance floor and dance!
Over the next couple months, I will use the Living Arts…5,6,7,8! blog to share techniques we can practice that will help in finding physical balance. I would also like some healthy discussion on ways of improving and finding balance in other aspects of our lives. The world around us is ever changing and balance is always being tested. That in some ways is what makes life so interesting, challenging, depressing, wonderful, scary, rewarding, and fulfilling.

Seeking a balanced life,
