Ages & Levels Info

Age 0 — 5

Preschool

Preschool age classes are designed to introduce age appropriate coursework to a new dancer's physical, emotional, and social development through the art of dance.  Preschool level dancers learn the basic dancing elements through creative movement, tap, and ballet.    

 

Primary objectives for our preschool students are geared toward inspiration, self-awareness, creativity, and imagination.  Young children will begin their love of learning through dance and music.

Age 6 — 8

Elementary

Elementary classes are designed to develop beginner level skills in dance, choreography, vocabulary and musicality with stylized execution of various dance styles. The classroom focus will be on learning technique, self-expression, and developing performance quality. 

 

Beginner Level:  A student with little or no dance/gymnastics experience, or no more than 1-2 years of preschool dance education.

 

Intermediate Level:*   For the student with 2-4 years of early dance education who can    demonstrate proficiency in the basic skills in their chosen dance style(s) and is ready to move on to a higher level of difficulty. *Permission of instructor is required.

Age 9 — 12

Middle School

Middle school level classes are designed to build on elementary skills by increasing demonstrated proficiency in dance, choreography, vocabulary, musicality and stylized execution of various dance styles.  The classroom focus will be on increasing technique, self-confidence, improvisation, story telling, and demonstrating performance quality. 

 

Lower Beginner Level:  For the student with little or no dance/gymnastics experience, or no more than 1-3 years of dance education.


Lower Intermediate Level:  For the student with at least 2-3 years of dance education who has moved beyond the basics yet is not quite ready for full intermediate work or is learning a new style of dance.

Lower Advanced Level:  For the student with 2 - 4 years of dance education who can    demonstrate a high level of proficiency in dance skills and is ready to move on to a higher level of difficulty.  *Permission of instructor is required. Pre-requisites may be required.

Age 13 — 17

High School

High school level classes are designed to develop advanced skills in dance, choreography, vocabulary, and musicality.  These classes will develop high levels of technique and strength with students learning to execute complex combinations and exhibiting high levels of performance quality.  High school dancers will be guided to hold a respectful attitude, have regular attendance, and demonstrate skills at each level of advancement.

 

Upper Beginner Level:  Students who have not had any previous dance education.      

 

Upper Intermediate Level:  Students who have at least 3-5 years of experience and demonstrate the ability to execute an intermediate level of technique and performance.

 

Upper Advanced Level:  Students with 5 or more years of experience who demonstrate high levels of technique, strength, musicality, complex choreography, and performance quality.  

Age 18 +

Adult

Levels in our adult classes range from first-time dancer to professional level execution.  Classes just for fun or to provide a low-impact, full-body exercise program.  Adult classes reconnect with the joy of dance instilled as a young dancer. 

 

Adult Beginner Level:  No previous dance experience. 

 

Adult Intermediate Level:  Students with 2-3 years dance experience at any age. 

 

Adult Advanced Level:  Students with 3-5 years dance experience or education. 

 

Adult Professional Level:  Students with any professional billed performance.
