Class Descriptions

Ballet

Ballet establishes foundational dance skills used throughout most other dance styles.  It is a precise and highly formalized set of movements that are light, graceful, and fluid.

Ballet/Hip-Hop Fusion

This class combines ballet and hip-hop movement displaying the diverse difference between the two styles of dance. Students will learn the difference between classical pulled-up, flowing, technical movement in ballet, versus the stank, in-the-pocket, percussive movement with an attitude expressed in hip-hop.

Ballet/Tap Combo

This combo class introduces beginning dancers to both ballet and tap.  Each discipline will be taught separately during the same class session.  Each discipline will have its own dance/costumes and be performed at our spring recital.

Broadway Dance

Our Broadway dance class incorporates ballet, jazz and modern dance styles in addition to theater skills and acting. Students will learn dance styles by being introduced to various Broadway shows.  A Broadway style piece will be performed at the spring recital.

Creative Concept Dance Challenge (CCDC)

One team from each Living Arts Dance Studio competes for a spring recital dance-off.  Each team will create their own dance, to the same song.  Both dances are performed at our spring recital.  The team with the most votes wins!

Creative Movement

This beginning level class introduces dance to young children. It incorporates basic dance elements and locomotor skills with use of props, imaginative play, and fun music to explore space. 

Dance Composition

Students learn all aspects of choreography or creating a dance, from the first beat. They come up with the concept, pick the music, sequences, costumes and props.  This is process helps them create their own work of performing art. 

Hip-Hop

A quickly evolving street inspired dance form that has made its way across the entertainment world.  With various styles, hip-hop is strong and percussive, yet fluid.  Best done with sick amounts of swagger.

Jazz

Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, strong technique, big leaps and quick turns.  Not only seen on Broadway shows or musicals from the early days of Hollywood, jazz dancing can be found everywhere.

Jazz/Acro Fusion

This beginning level class introduces dance to young children. It incorporates basic dance elements and locomotor skills with use of props, imaginative play, and fun music to explore space. 

Jazz/Hip-Hop Combo

This combo class introduces beginning dancers to both jazz and hip-hop.  Each discipline will be taught separately in class producing two dances.  Each dance will be performed at our spring recital and have different costumes.

Living Arts Dance Team (LADT)

LADT is our competitive dance team taking dance to the next level. LADT has three levels of dance teams competing a local dance competitions.  This is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn valuable life skills, taking critiques from professional dance judges as they improve their dance performance quality, and self-esteem.

 

All LADT teams require an audition for placement.  

Point

This is an advanced level ballet class that incorporates the use of point shoes and learning how to dance on them. You must have 5+ years of ballet, instructor approval and be at least 12 years or age or have a doctor’s approval. 

Tap

A form of dance that uses tap shoes to strike the floor creating complex percussive sounds and rhythms. An American invention, tap style of dance in which your feet become musical instruments.
