Class Descriptions

Ballet

Ballet is the basis of all dance and the foundation of all other dance forms.  It is a precise and highly formalized set of steps that are light, graceful, and fluid movements.

Ballet/Hip-Hop Fusion

This class combines ballet and hip-hop movement displaying the diverse difference between the two styles of dance. They are complete opposites. Students will learn the difference between classical pulled up technical movement versus stank, slouchy, percussive movement with an attitude. 

Ballet/Tap Combo

Both disciplines will be taught separately in class and performed at our spring recital. This class will learn 2 separate dances and have two costumes.

Broadway Dance

Broadway dance can be defined as the incorporation of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles in addition to theater skills and acting. This Class will focus on learning about different musicals and will perform a Broadway style piece for the spring recital. 

Contemporary

A style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modernjazzlyrical and classical ballet

Creative Movement

This beginning level class is a nice introduction to dance for young children. It incorporates basic dance elements and locomotor skills with use of props, imaginative play, and fun music to explore space. 

Dance Composition

Students learn all aspects of creating a dance from the ground up. They come up with the concept, pick the music, costumes and props if any and learn choreography concepts to help them create their own work of art. 

Jazz

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, strong technique, big leaps and quick turns.

Hip-Hop

This form of dance came from the streets as a way for gangs to take aggressions out in a different way. The style is strong and percussive, yet fluid with a lot of swag.

Jazz/Acro Fusion

This class combines both jazz and acrobatics together forming one dance with both elements. 

Jazz/Hip-Hop Combo

LADT

Living Arts Dance Team is our competitive team that has taken dance to the next level. They attend a few competitions in Michigan each season competing with other studios. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn so many valuable life skills and taking critiques from dance professionals in the industry to improve their own dance technique. Admittance to the team is by audition.  

Point

This is an advanced level ballet class that incorporates the use of point shoes and learning how to dance on them. You must have several years of ballet, instructor approval and be at least 12 years of age or have a doctor’s approval. 

Tap

A form of dance that uses tap shoes to strike the floor creating percussion sounds. It is a very rhythmic style of dance in which your feet become musical instruments.

Hip-Hop

This form of dance came from the streets as a way for gangs to take aggressions out in a different way. The style is strong and percussive, yet fluid with a lot of swag.
